Sasag taps Zattoo for new IPTV service

Zattoo today announced a multi-year innovation partnership with Swiss cable operator sasag Cable Communication AG.

Schaffhausen based Sasag, whose IPTV service was initially launched in 2016, has selected Zattoo’s TV Platform to relaunch its TV offering providing sasag end customers with a new cutting-edge IPTV and TV everywhere experience.

With the ubiquity of streaming providers, users expect easy access to their favorite content at any time. Powered by its white label TV Platform, Zattoo will provide everything a modern TV service requires, including greater interactivity and personalisation as well as a consistent user experience across all devices. The new service comes with a host of innovative and configurable features including content discovery, catch-up TV, live pause, restart and nPVR with up to 500 recordings.

Sasag’s new TV service will go live this summer in a phased rollout with the launch of applications for Apple TV (tvOS) and iOS devices. A sasag- branded Android TV Operator Tier set-top box, apps for Amazon Fire TV, Smart TVs, and all Android and web applications will follow in early fall 2021. Sasag will be the first operator in Switzerland to offer a full set of Smart TV apps to their customers, including Panasonic, Samsung Tizen and LG webOS, as well as Smart TVs running Android TV.

“Switzerland is one of the most advanced TV markets in the world. The broad availability of content and non linear use cases poses special challenges to operators in building and maintaining compelling TV products that are fit to compete with the comprehensive pay TV services of large telcos. Upgrading their TV service with the full range of applications for STBs, Streaming Boxes, Smart TVs and mobile devices will be a great differentiator for sasag. We are happy and grateful to be working with such an innovative and agile partner in delivering a great TV experience to the sasag customer base”, said Julian Hens, Head of Sales at Zattoo.

In signing a multi-year agreement, sasag will be joining a TV platform with not only a strong pedigree in service delivery but also a proven track record in developing and implementing new features which not only focuses on delivering a next-generation TV experience but also act on new market requirements within the relevant region. Particularly relevant in the case of sasag is Zattoo’s support for the forthcoming introduction of the Swiss Common Tariff GT-12, a common collections tariff for all service providers in Switzerland in respect of non-linear and recordings rights, and Zattoo’s Dynamic Add Substitution which will further enable sasag to have the full flexibility to offer its end customers the best TV experience possible.

"After modernizing our fiber optic cable network and being the first cable network to introduce nationwide Internet at 1GBit/s two years ago, we are now taking our place at the top of the TV service provider table by switching to Zattoo’s TV Platform solution. The extensive feature set of the new IPTV solution, as well as the availability of the TV solution on all of our end user’s devices will make our future IPTV offering much more attractive. We are pleased about the professional and competent cooperation with Zattoo”, said Daniel Kyburz, CEO at sasag Cable Communication AG.
